Shoppers and office-goers at the 74-year-old commercial centre are being forced to run for their lives — literally.

With restoration work shutting down the existing five subways for the next 80 days, pedestrians are forced to court danger at every step while crossing the Outer Circle of CP.
NDMC is building eight new subways in the outer circle of Connuaght Place.
These subways, along with the five existing subways, that are also being renovated, will be equipped with escalators.
“You never know when and from where a pedestrian is going to come in front of your car,” said Kapil Singh (25).
Ritu (22), an engineering student, said pedestrians are left with no choice.
“I have to wait endlessly for the vehicles to pass before even thinking of crossing the road. With the subways closed, what else can we do but run across the road,” she said.
Senior traffic officers said pedestrian movement is very high at Baba Kharak Singh crossing and Janpath T-point.
“We can not put up traffic signals on outer circle. We are deploying more traffic personnel at busy intersections to stop traffic manually and let pedestrians cross,” said Ajay Chaddha, special commissioner of police (traffic).
