The government was able to restore the website of Sam Pitroda, advisor to Prime Minister on information technology, a day after it came under cyber attack by Algerian hackers.

The hackers had also defaced some other government websites including that of Defence and Research Development Organisation (DRDO) and West Bengal police.
The website of National Innovation Council headed by Pitroda was hacked a day before he was to organize a two day global innovation conference. Clicking on the conference tab took to the message posted by the hacker identified as SanFour25.
On the other hand, the DRDO’s recruitment and assessment centre with web address of rac.gov.in giving job related information was defaced.
“On 30 October 2012, suspicious activity was noticed on the National Informatics Server hosting the website. The NIC, as a precautionary measure, therefore temporarily blocked access to the server hosting the RAC website and restored it next day," DRDO said in a release on Thursday.
It said the website was fully functional and the main public website of DRDO has not been affected in any manner.
