Maoists are closer than you thought. They have bases in Patel Nagar and Uttam Nagar in west Delhi, reveals the interrogation report of top ideologue Kobad Ghandy (60), arrested last September.
The report — accessed by Hindustan Times — names ‘Lalith’, a freelance journalist, and ‘Malathi’, a private company employee, as key operatives of the banned CPI (Maoists) in the Capital.
It also reveals that Ghandy, a member of the outfit’s central committee till his arrest, is not optimistic about the future of the movement.
Ghandy feels their cause is “not advancing”, that on the contrary, Maoists are “losing their base”.
“Differences among the cadre on theoretical, ideological and political” issues have eroded their influence, Ghandy feels.
The only region where Ghandy maintains the Maoists have entrenched themselves is the Dandakaranaya region of Chhattisgarh.
“Due to limited resources available in urban areas, top cadres are getting caught by the police,” he continues.
More than 600 people, including security men, were killed in Maoist violence in 2009.
