Withdraw fast plans: Sangma writes to Anna

Former Lok Sabha speaker PA Sangma has written a letter to Anna Hazare requesting him to withdraw his fast and initiate a fresh dialogue with the government. HT reports.

Former Lok Sabha speaker PA Sangma has written a letter to Anna Hazare requesting him to withdraw his fast and initiate a fresh dialogue with the government.

“I beseech you to withdraw your plans of fasting in view of your advanced age and the fact that Indian society today needs your guidance,” he wrote.

“It is high time that a fresh dialogue is initiated with the government with an express desire to resolve the issue to the satisfaction of civil society, while giving due consideration to the pitfalls,” wrote Sangma.

On the demand to bring the PM, MPs and judges under the ambit of Lok Pal Bill, Sangma said it is “fraught with serious danger to the very existence of Parliamentary democracy”. He favoured a provision in the lokpal bill that action against a PM for any misdemeanor should be taken only after he demits the office.
