Woman alleges rape, husband’s friend held

A 32-year-old woman has alleged that she was drugged and raped by her husband’s friend around a month ago in northeast Delhi’s Gokul Puri, police said on Friday.

The matter came to light on Thursday after the victim’s husband approached the Gokul Puri police station and lodged a complaint against his friend.

The police registered a case of rape on the basis of the complaint filed by the victim’s husband and identified the accused as one Barkat Ali, 40, who was later arrested. Ali was produced before a magistrate and sent to Tihar Jail, police said.

According to a police officer, the victim lived with her family in Mustafabad area of Delhi. Ali was supposedly a close friend of the victim’s husband. The victim in her statement has alleged that around a month ago, she had gone to look at a property for sale with Ali in Gokul Puri area when the incident took place.

“She alleged that Ali offered her a cold drink laced with sedative. She became unconscious after drinking it following which Ali raped her. The woman claimed that she did not tell anybody in her family about the incident as she was scared. She was in trauma and depression after the incident, but could not open up to her husband.
