Woman jumps to death on Metro line

A 45-year-old woman, employed as a lower-division clerk with the Indian Coast Guard, allegedly committed suicide by jumping before a train at a west Delhi Metro station on Wednesday morning, police said. HT reports.

Bhairon Singh Gurjar, additional DCP (railways), said the incident was reported from the Subhash Nagar Metro Station at 9am. The victim, identified as Maninder Kaur of Vikaspuri, jumped before a train on the Dwarka-Vaishali line.

“Her family claimed that she was mentally unstable and had been on therapy for the past two years,” said a senior police officer, investigating the case.
Police said a single-line suicide note, scribbled on her bank passbook, Rs 1,072 and an identity card registered at a government ordnance depot were recovered from Kaur.

According to the police, Kaur's last wish, as scribbled on her State Bank of India passbook, was that all her savings should be donated to the Bangla Sahib Gurdwara and not a penny should be given to her son.

The Delhi Metro officials said the incident, which occurred during the morning rush hour, disrupted services for around 15 minutes. Kaur was rushed to the DDU Hospital where she was declared brought dead.

“Though it seems like a case of suicide, we are investigating the matter from all angles and questioning her family members,” the officer added.
