According to police, the incident was reported around 11pm from Ranhola area. The victim has been identified as Kamal, a resident of Nazafgarh in southwest Delhi.

Kamal, a senior police officer said, had left his home in the evening for Ranhola for some personal work.

At an isolated place in Ranhola, he was waylaid by some miscreants who threatened him with dire consequences and asked him to part with his cash and belongings.

"Kamal resisted their robbery bid after which one of the assailants attacked him with a knife. Kamal sustained multiple stab wounds on his body and collapsed. The miscreants fled, leaving behind Kamal in a pool of blood. A passerby spotted him and made a call to the police control room," said the senior officer.

A PCR van reached the spot after receiving the call and rushed Kamal to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial hospital where his condition was stated to be critical.

A case of attempt to murder and robbery has been registered at the Ranhola police station and efforts are on to nab the robbers, added the officer.
