It was an extremely close fight, with Indian National Congress's Bhuriya Shivabhai Amrabhai narrowly winning the election upstaging Bharatiya Janata Party's Chauhan Keshaji Shivaji by a slim margin of 972 votes.

97.7% of the total votes were casted to top two candidates. Indian National Congress's Bhuriya Shivabhai Amrabhai got a total of 80,432 votes, while Bharatiya Janata Party's Chauhan Keshaji Shivaji got 79,460 votes. Bahujan Mukti Party's candidate Hiraji Prahladji Vaghela grabbed 2,049 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties secured 49.2%, 48.6% and 1.3% respectively.
