Bharatiya Janata Party's K Madalu Virupakshappa got a total of 73,794 votes, while Indian National Congress's Vadnal Rajanna secured 48,014 votes. Janata Dal (Secular)'s candidate D Ramesha grabbed the third spot with 29,106 votes. The top three parties got 47.0%, 30.6% and 18.5% respectively.
In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Indian National Congress's Vadnal Rajanna beat Karnataka Jantha Paksha's K.Madal Virupakshappa by 1,773 votes.
