Assembly polls 2022 results: How to watch counting day coverage on Aaj Tak

Assembly election 2022 results live streaming: The assembly elections in the five states were held between February 10 and March 7, with Uttar Pradesh voting in as many as seven rounds.

The counting of votes for assembly elections in five states--Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Manipur and Punjab--will be done today, while results will be announced later in the day. As votes are counted in the five states, Aaj Tak will provide live streaming of its counting day coverage.

A total of 690 seats across the five states went to polls, of which 403 are in Uttar Pradesh alone. The country’s most populous state is likely to witness a close contest between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Samajwadi Party (SP)-led coalition. The BJP has fielded Yogi Adityanath, the incumbent CM, as its chief ministerial candidate, while SP chief and Adityanath’s predecessor, Akhilesh Yadav, is the coalition’s face for the top post. The polling in UP took place in seven phases: February 10, 14, 20, 23, 27 and March 3 and 7.

The BJP is the ruling party in three other states as well: Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa. These have 70, 60 and 40 assembly constituencies, respectively. In each state, the party fielded its CMs as chief ministerial faces: Pushkar Singh Dhami (Uttarakhand), N Biren Singh (Manipur) and Pramod Sawant (Goa). The Congress is likely to be its closest challenger in all three states, while in Goa, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), too, is in the fray.

Punjab, with 117 seats, is the only non-BJP state which went to polls. The Congress, which is in power here, fought under CM Charanjit Singh Channi as its face for the top job. The AAP is its closest competitor; the Arvind Kejriwal-led party announced in January that if it wins, its Lok Sabha MP from Sangrur, and its Punjab unit chief, Bhagwant Mann, will be the next CM of the border state. Also in the fray are the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)-Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) alliance, as well as the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which comprises, among others, the BJP and Punjab Lok Congress (PLC), which was founded by former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh after resigning from the Congress last year.

Manipur went to polls on February 28 and March 5. Uttarakhand and Goa voted only on February 14, while electors in Punjab, too, voted on a single date: February 20.
