Attack box office day 3 collections: John Abraham-starrer earns ₹11.51 crore in first weekend, RRR still reigns supreme

Attack box office day 3 collections: The John Abraham film has not managed to see a jump in its collections on its first Sunday, finishing with a disappointing ₹11.51 crore in first weekend.

John Abraham-starrer Attack has failed to get the audiences back to the theatre. The action adventure film, which released this Friday, managed to barely cross the ₹10-crore mark at the box office during its first weekend. The film fared rather poorly compared to RRR, which managed to earn almost five times as much in its second weekend. Attack also stars Jacqueline Fernandez and Rakul Preet Singh, with Prakash Raj and Ratna Pathak Shah in supporting roles.

On Monday, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the film's overall box office collections for its first three days. Sharing a still of the film with the words 'misses the mark' written on it, he wrote, "#Attack is below the mark... No major growth / jump on Day 2 and 3 is disappointing... The #RRR wave has also impacted its prospects in mass sectors... Fri 3.51 cr, Sat 3.75 cr, Sun 4.25 cr. Total: ₹11.51 cr. #India biz." In comparison, RRR's Hindi version grossed in excess of ₹50 crore in what was its second weekend, continuing to be the best-performing Indian film over the weekend.

Directed by Lakshya Raj Anand, Attack mixes action with science-fiction and superhero genres, and deals with the concept of super soldier. John plays a paralysed former soldier, who is turned into India's first super soldier to combat terrorists. Industry insiders say that this unique positioning hurt the film's chances. According to a report in BoxOfficeIndia.com, "It was an action film with a video game feel. The urban youth audience which will be the target audience does not really watch Hindi action films barring an exception here or there."

In a recent interview with PTI, John Abraham said he just picks up films that are right for him and does not pay heed to what the audience expects from him. "I just do what I think is right. After Vicky Donor, there were many people who asked to me do Vicky Donor 2 but we made Madras Cafe. Then they asked me to do Madras Cafe 2. So generally there is a herd mentality where one follows a trend. But I don't do that. I don't work that way," he added.

RRR is directed by SS Rajamouli and stars Jr NTR and Ram Charan in the lead. The film is also loaded with VFX and is based on the lives of Komaram Bheem and Alluri Seetharama Raju in pre-independence India. The movie also features Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Shriya Saran, Samuthirakani, Olivia Morris, Alison Doody, and Ray Stevenson.
