‘Irrfan Khan was fantastic in New York I Love You’
Bradley Cooper, whose A-Team releases today, wants to do a ‘fun’ Bollywood movie.entertainment Updated: Jun 25, 2010 14:36 IST
Meanwhile, Cooper says he’s ‘cool’ with the mixed response he has received for A-Team. “I play a smooth-talker called Face, who is great with women, is a conman, pickpocket and a charlatan. He’s part of a group that sets out to clear its name of a crime it hasn’t committed,” he says.
The film is based on a TV series of the same name and has been in the making since the 1990s. Cooper says that the reason it took so long was because the producers wanted to get the script right.
“They wanted to make A-Team feel bigger, more muscular and match the action sequences with the best of today’s blockbusters. The series had a huge fan following, I’ve grown up on the iconic characters from the movie. We’ve tried to keep the tone of the film similar to the TV show and have managed to weave in humour and action. Hopefully, the wait will be worth it for the Indian audience too,” he says.
According to writer Michael Brandt, the adaptation is grittier than the TV show, and is in the vein of films like Batman Begins, Die Hard, The Bourne Identity, and Casino Royale.
“The film is hardly a by-the-book big-screen rendering of the series,” says Cooper. “Joe (Carnahan, the director) had a vision of a much edgier A-Team and that’s what there is in the film.”
The actor, who has been part of popular TV shows like Sex and the City and Kitchen Confidential, says the transition from the small to the big screen hasn’t been too challenging.
“I’m amazed I’ve been in the business for over 10 years. The process has been slow but gradual,” says Cooper, who is the third male actor to make it to People magazine’s list of Most Beautiful People this year.
Cooper’s list of upcoming films includes New York I Love You, in which his story revolves around two people who are instantly attracted to each other on their first meeting in New York.
“In the course of the film, I met some extremely talented directors and one Indian actor who I cannot forget. Irrfan Khan’s performance is outstanding. He’s the only actor I know from India. He’s told me that India is a beautiful place with a remarkable history and great people. I’ll know better when I make my first visit,” he says.
The actor is also working once again with Joe Carnahan, on The Grey, a thriller about survivors of a plane crash.
