The Baywatch star tagged the hunt "an embarrassment to Canada".
She revealed that she made the appeal during the Winter Olympic Games here because "the whole world is watching Canada".
The Canadian actress emphasized on little ice in the Gulf of St Lawrence for the seal birthing season, in her letter.
"The absence of this birthing habitat will have dangerous consequences for the entire harp-seal population. Without ice, mother seals will be forced to abort their pups in the water," the Mirror quoted her as saying in the letter.
More than 50,000 people, who want the annual hunt to end permanently, had signed the letter.
Meanwhile, Fisheries and Oceans department spokesman Alain Belle-Isle said, referring to the little ice left: "Similar circumstances in the past have resulted in higher than normal pup mortality."
