Sunday saw actor Soha Ali Khan on a date with Delhi, as part of the finale of the Hindustan Times New Delhi 100 Film Festival in association with PVR Cinemas, held to celebrate the city’s centenary as India’s capital.
Khan, together with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, director of Rang De Basanti (2006), was in conversation with winning HT readers at PVR Rivoli, Connaught Place, about growing up in Delhi and shooting the cult classic with the city as its backdrop. “I loved the part when we were driving around India Gate in a jeep… that was crazy fun,” said the 32-year-old, before half the gathering raised their hands when asked if they’d done the same rounds after watching the film. Mehra, 48, who also directed Delhi-6 (2009), said, “While I was growing up in Chandni Chowk, things were different… today, Delhi is a world-class city with great infrastructure, and its youth is alive. I was greatly inspired to see the Anna Hazare action.” The active open house was followed by the two signing the HT wall of fame, and the screening of Rang De Basanti.
The festival took off on September 10 with the screening of Sonam Kapoor-starrer Aisha, with the film’s director Rajshri Ojha in discussion. This was followed by screenings and discussions on other hit Delhi-based films — director Dibakar Banerjee chatted up on Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!, filmmaker Maneesh Sharma on his flick Band Baaja Baaraat, and No One Killed Jessica director Rajkumar Gupta and actor Myra (who played Jessica) on the Rani Mukerji-starrer.
