OTTplay Awards 2022 highlights: Raveena Tandon wins Best Actor Female, celebs praise the 'pan-India' awards show

Masaba Gupta won the award for Masaba Masaba. She said she was happy that her show existed in the same universe as Family Man and Delhi Crime.

Ram Madhavani, Vinod Rawat, Kapil Sharma win for Arya 2. Ram Madhvani said he was feeling ‘nervous and special’ after the win. He said they will be back on stage to receive an award for season 3.

Tabbar (SonyLiv) wins the award. Ajithpal Singh said his show is also “50% Punjabi” and he was overjoyed at how so many series from a variety of languages were winning awards. 

It's a tie between Arya (Sarpatta Parambai) and Farhan Akhtar (Toofaan). 

Kishore won the award for She 2. “I don't know if I deserve this or not but I know my team deserves it,” he said in his speech.

Raj B Shetty and Rishab Shetty (Kannada) won the award and thanked the awards for bringing all content from all languages under one roof. 

Priyadarshi won for Unheard & Loser 2, a Telugu series. Nervous about his win, he thought the trophy was too heavy. 

Dhruv Sehgal and Mithila Palkar won the award. They play the lead parts in Little Things. 

Koknona Sen Sharma wins for 26/11 Mumbai Diaries. “It's my first OTT awards. Yay,” she said after her win.

Paramabrata Chatterjee wins for Aranyak. He said this is his first award ‘on the national level’. 

Jameel Khan of Gullak wins the award. He said he cannot ‘thank enough’ the cast and crew of the show.

Kunal Kapoor won the award for Empire. He thanked the cast and crew for the support. He joked that he made his actual debut at the movies 17 years ago but this still feels special.

Anirban won Best Dialogues (Series) for Mandaar, a Bengali series.

Pushkar and Gayathri won Best Screenplay (Series) for Suzhal.

Actor Kubbra Sait chatted with the media on the red carpet. Speaking about the significance of OTT, she said that they have created fans and an audience for OTT.  “We are now known for the characters we play. This used to only happen in movies back in the day," she said.

"This is an exciting evening and what's happening on OTT platforms is also exciting. It is letting us bring forward such characters and stories that would get lost before. As an actor, storyteller and producer I am excited," said Kunal Kapoor at the red carpet. 

Actor Kubbra Sait, who found fame with her breakthrough role of Kukoo in Netflix's Sacred Games, talks about fame, on the red carpet. “We have people now who are loyal fans of characters. This used to only happen in movies back in the day when you had Amitabh Bachchan being called the Angry Young Man. Nobody calls me Kubbra, everybody calls me Kukoo,” she says.

Pushkar and Gayathri, the directors of the acclaimed web series Suzhal and the upcoming Bollywood film Vikram Vedha, call Pankaj Tripathi their favourite actor in the OTT space, also praising Manoj Bajpayee and Shefali Shah.

Kirti Kulhari, who has worked in shows like Humans and Four More Shots Please, praised streaming platforms and said that ‘OTT is like a breath of fresh air for people like me’.

Dozens of web series and films that released in the eligibility period are competing across over three dozen categories in the awards. Shows and films released between June 1, 2021 and July 31, 2022 are eligible for the awards this year.

The nominees and some of the winners (jury categories) for the awards have been selected by a jury that includes filmmakers Aanand L Rai and Ashwini Iyer Tiwari and actors Divya Dutta and Adil Hussain.
