Wearing a dark lippie might be intimidating to some, but it needn’t be. If you choose the right colour, it’s easy-peasy to pull of a diva-esque look. So add a bit of warmth to the chill: All you need is some hue-love that can pump up the mercury.
Choosing your colour
Cinnamons and chocolate-dipped berry reds can be your saviours this season. We love how Deepika offsets her demure white with a shade of indulgent burgundy that introduced instant drama to her look. So, pick up a bold colour for your lip and plan the rest of your makeup around it.

Lip contouring
Start with a lip liner. Never go for a liner darker than the shade of your lipstick. When going for a dark colour, you can go for a lip liner which is close to the colour of your lipstick. Trace your cupid’s bow carefully for the perfect pout. Using a little BB cream or a concealer stick and tracing the outside of your lips with it helps in covering up any smudges, and highlights the shape of your lips further.

Matte problem
A lot of us prefer going for liquid mattes when it comes to darker shades for the added edge. Make sure your lips are not dry, before you apply, because mattes usually tend to dry and crack. You can use a lip primer to build the needed foundation for your lippy. If you don’t want to invest in a separate product, go for a smooth-gliding lippy which is a lighter shade of your dark hue and apply it before the final application of your matte lipstick.

More tricks
A setting or a translucent powder that is applied post the application of your lipstick can be useful. Also, since you are going for a dark shade of lippy, make sure that takes centerstage. With a tricky shade of brown or a deep hue of maroon, chances are, you won’t need to highlight any other feature on the face. A bold smokey eye combined with a dark lip will make you fall into the OTT trap. So, when planning your beauty look, choose the feature you want to highlight.
