Mahendra Singh Dhoni is going back to the long locks he’s best known for. After winning the World Cup last year, he had gone for a close shave, but claims he wants to grow his hair again.

The Indian captain’s decision to go long is the newest addition to the list of cricketers who’ve gone for complete mane makeovers. It includes Sachin Tendulkar, Zaheer Khan, S Sreesanth and Virat Kohli among others.

“Zaheer, Sachin and a few others want to look different for the IPL, which is about to begin,” says celebrity hairstylist Aalim Hakim. “Zaheer came to me a couple of days ago and I’ve straightened his hair a bit to give it length. On the other hand, Sachin has never grown his hair, so I’ve trimmed it recently.”

Aalim reveals that his biggest experiment is cricketer S Sreesanth: “He had long hair, which I cut short. He looks like Elvis (Presley) now. Sreesanth’s quite a character. He likes to experiment. Last IPL, his orange-coloured hair became a rage. A lot of people requested it.”

At Savio John Pereira’s salon, cricketer-inspired haircuts have always been a rage. “Everyone’s been talking about Sachin.

They all want his straight hair,” he says, adding, “Sreesanth and Kumar Sangakkara are popular too. Before Yuvraj Singh was forced to go bald, many people would ask for his short buzz cut and hair tattoos.”

Surprisingly, Sri Lankan Lasith Malinga’s peroxide locks are also on the wish list of Savio’s clients. And at Aalim’s salon, Virat Kohli’s ever-changing spikes and severely gelled styles have also found favour among many enthusiasts.
