The runway has been screaming the new colour code for many seasons now. But finally, celebrities in Mumbai are turning to floor-length blue gowns, getting rid of their copycat little black dresses. Sonam Kapoor impressed with her ice blue draped dress at the Mausam theatrical launch, while Malaika Arora Khan went for a slit-to-the-thigh royal blue number.

Designer Lina Tipnis puts it simply, “Blue has been the new black for over two seasons. Black has a very staid feel to it, while blue offers so many different shades that you can easily find one that suits your skin tone.”Deepika Gehani, designer and Page 3 regular, admits, “Everyone was wearing black, then they all switched over to red, so I guess people are just looking for a new colour to stand out.”

According to Tipnis, teal blue is the best pick. She says, “It’s a colour that should really be worn on it’s own, but if you were to match it with another, then go for nude tones or pristine white. Wear it with sapphires."
