The slick style showcase, the WIFW A/W 2011/12 that takes off in the capital today has many designers experimenting with their signature looks this season. While drapes, frills and soft drapes have always been the style hallmark on Indian runways, this season many designers are going for structured chic. They are opting for minimalism that is a far cry from frou-frou fashion we have seen before. Designer Neeru Kumar who is debuting at fashion week says, “My collection emphasises more on contemporary functionality. There are skirts, trousers and dresses that are form fitting with practical styles like tied knots.”.

Designer Nikhita Tandon says, “My outfits are embellishedwith safety pins.” Designer Namrata Joshipura is going to step away from her signature embellished garments. “This time, I have few pieces of unembroidered garments in my collection,” she reveals.

Designer duo Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna are bringing the 60s look back. “It’s the retro sporty chic theme that we’ll try this time.” Anand Kabra says, “I’m using mirrors but in a contemporary way.” However, it’s not just the cuts, veteran Manish Malhotra is going to surprise the audience with the edgy music. “For the first time, I’m going to use edgy music to showcase my collection.”
