Bollywood’s favourite designer Manish Malhotra is upbeat about designing special T-shirts for the winners of Hindustan Times’

contest.
“I’ve grown up on movies. It was a matter of pride when I was asked to design for the winners. I’ve worked on three different designs, inspired by Indian cinema’s iconic movies and characters,” says Malhotra.
Manish loves the grandeur of movies, “Movies such as Pakeezah, Mughal-E-Azam, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai are all about grandeur. I loved the costumes and drama. I loved Raj Kapoor movies. They were high on drama and entertainment, I was fascinated by the era of 60s and 70s. Movies inspired me to be a designer. Till date, if I completely want to unwind and relax myself, I go to theatre to watch a movie.”
Manish also loves the golden era girls such as Mumtaz, Zeenat Amaan, Meena Kumari, Saira Bano and Tina Munim. “They were glamorous and had great screen presence. In recent times, I enjoy watching Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Preity Zinta. They have great fashion sense as well.”
Professionally, Manish says he will be participating in the Delhi Couture Week in August. “It is always exciting to do a fashion show in Delhi. I get great support and response from the city.”
