Today, she is one of the biggest names in the international fashion circuit, dressing up the likes of the first lady of the US, Michelle Obama. And now, half-Indian and half-Dutch, American fashion designer Rachel Roy has her eyes on India.

She started her career at 14 in a retail clothing outlet in California. Today, she is one of the biggest names in the international fashion circuit, dressing up the likes of the first lady of the US, Michelle Obama. And now, half-Indian and half-Dutch, American fashion designer Rachel Roy has her eyes on India.

“I’ve always wanted to participate in the fashion week in Delhi, but the timing doesn’t suit me as the shows here usually start right after New York Fashion Week, and that’s when my market starts as it’s sale time in NY,” says the 38-year-old, who was in the Capital to introduce her collection that will be available at luxury store Kitsch’s outlets across the country.

So, is there any Indian celebrity whom she wants to design for? “You know what really makes me happy? If I spot someone on the streets in my designs, because, I know that the person has spent hard-earned money to sport my creations. And that’s a great feeling,” says Roy, however admitting that the funniest thing is that despite all her fame and success, her dad is still waiting for her to either become a doctor, lawyer, dentist or an engineer.
