Plaid gets punchier this season
Recently, Akshay Kumar was seen sporting a grey Burberry plaid shirt and a purple plaid tie at an event. The trend has just turned a lot edgier with the fashion savvy layering checks on checks.fashion and trends Updated: Oct 10, 2010 01:22 IST
Designer Varsha Bhawnani says, "When wearing plaid, smaller frames need to be careful to avoid huge plaids that may not look proportionate. If you are broad framed then you could go in for the broader widths, giving you more length." Another trick is to wear plaids with solid colours, making the plaids stand out. "You could wear bold, solid coloured accessories to go with the outfit, a pair of wafer sunglasses are the best to go with plaids in any form, either teamed with a smart scarf or a pair of converse." says Navneet Randhawa from Aphrodite.
Team it up
This vintage look inspired trend can give an instant kick to your wardrobe. Designer Sabbah Sharma says traditional plaids are back with a new twist, "The reinterpretation of this vintage print with edgier silhouettes is what makes it cool. When wearing plaid stay away from very large checks. It’s a myth that one cannot mix another print with plaid, but while doing so u have to be careful."
"Plaids as a texture can be used either in a vertical or horizontal way depending on the design of the garment. Team a plaid t -shirt with a pair of denims, or tights in alternate colours , or make a dress out of it for the evenings , it looks great in every style," shares designer Monika Arora.
Wear it well
Less is more: Plaids being unique and eye-catching should be restricted to one piece in your overall get up.
Rocker chic: Try the plaid skirts or trousers, paired with a bright linen jacket style top or a funky metal studded waistcoat, with minimal gothic accessories in dark colours.
Awesome accessories: Accessories should not be busy. Hand bags, clutches, head gears etc. all should be in solid colours.
Not too much colour: Never ever wear too much of colour with plaids until you wish to look like a Christmas tree, keep the look clean and crisp.
