Platinum blonde hair: Delhi youth embrace the trend that even Justin Bieber shows off
This international hair colour trend, rocked by celebrities such as singer Katy Perry and actor Kristen Stewart, has found takers among the young and stylish of Delhi. Hair experts in the city say it is the coolest trend.
As pop star Justin Bieber scorched the stage in Mumbai on May 10, one group of people — Beliebers or not — must have been feeling very, very cool. Cooler than usual, that is.
The Canadian singer, whose changing hairstyles get as much attention as his music, is the torch-bearer of the current international trend of platinum blonde hair, something that with-it Delhiites have embraced.
Among other global celebrities who have been rocking the look are actor Kristen Stewart, model-actor Cara Delevingne, and singer Katy Perry. The platinum blonde shade is the lighest of all blonde hair colours — it’s extremely rare for someone to be a natural platinum blonde, which is why the icy shade is so eye-catching.

“I always say that any colour on hair is like lipstick on it and the platinum blonde hair is just the coolest trend for 2017. This is for the young and experimental lot,” says hair expert Jawed Habib. Does this icy hue suit the Indian complexion? “When you wear white trousers, any coloured T-shirt looks nice with it. Similarly, platinum blonde hair goes well with dusky complexion, too,” he replies.

“A lot of youngsters and college-goers ask for this platinum or ash shade when they visit my salon. The trend has a lot of takers and it’s good to see that the young Delhi crowd is going for this quirky trend, which has become a rage in the West,” says city-based hair and beauty expert Aashmeen Munjaal.
“I received so many compliments after colouring my hair platinum blonde and it draws attention everywhere I go,” says Delhi-based model Imran Khan.
