A sea of 90,000 rubber ducks flooded the Chicago River on Thursday as part of the annual Chicago Ducky Derby, a colourful charity event supporting Special Olympics Illinois. The ducks were dumped from a truck through a partially raised bridge, forming a huge yellow pool before floating along a stretch of the river lined with Chicago's iconic skyscrapers.
The ducks remained in the water for around 15 minutes before the winning and runner-up ducks were pulled from the river. Thousands of people attended the event and its accompanying festival, where visitors posed with giant inflatable ducks, wore duck-themed shirts and took part in activities supporting the Special Olympics.
