Pack away those dainty and cutesy heels for the next season. Footwear has turned bold, whimsical and quirky.

At the recently held Teen Choice Awards in California, it was the heels, in eccentric designs, that scored over the pretty designer outfits.

While singer Avril Lavigne wore American flag inspired funky wedges, actor Lucy Hale chose gravity defying heel-less platforms to make a bold statement. Teen star Selena Gomez chose Brian Atwood designed purple strappy sandals with frills in the centre. Leggy actor Cameron Diaz wore white, coral and black geometric designed Burak Uyan heels.

Style gurus believe that the wacky heels trend is here to stay and is poised to become every fashionista’s shoe wardrobe essential. Shoe designer Swati Modo sums it up: “Footwear is getting funkier. From twisted heels to heel-less sandals and wild prints, unusual designs are all the rage now.”
