Sabyasachi to show in Delhi

The designer, who has the distinction of being the first Indian designer ever to be invited to showcase at Milan Fashion Week — will showcase his collection at the upcoming FDCI Couture Week.

Fans of elusive designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee in the Capital have reason to rejoice. The designer — who has the distinction of being the first Indian designer ever to be invited to showcase at Milan Fashion Week — will showcase his collection at the upcoming FDCI Couture Week, to be held at the Grand Hotel from July 15 to 18. It is after five years that he will do a show in Delhi.

“I’ve been wanting to showcase at the Couture Week for the past 2-3 years, but had prior commitments. The Week otherwise happens in September-October, which is when I’m working on designing for films. This year, fortunately, the timing was convenient,” says the designer.

“I want to do a collection with organic fabric... from Murshidabad in Bengal. Right now, I’m in Paris for Raavan’s premiere. I’ll start work on the collection when I return to India.”

The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), too, is elated about getting the ace designer on board. “It’s great to have Sabya participate in the Couture Week, under FDCI’s common platform ,” says FDCI president Sunil Sethi.
