The Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai ended on a high note with a grand show by Tarun Tahiliani, but there was little to show in the way of international buyers.

The Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai ended on a high note with a grand show by Tarun Tahiliani on Tuesday, but there was little to show in the way of international buyers. And the designers are disappointed. “We were given a long list of international buyers but few turned up,” said designer Vivek Karunakaran. Imcha Imchen concured, “There are no queries from international buyers. Not many domestic buyers have placed orders either.”

This is a far cry from last year when the show had buyers from the US and Europe. “At the end of the Week it is only about the business one makes,” said designer Rahul Mishra, who is among the lucky few to have got buyers from Harvey Nichols and Canada. “There were no buyers from the Middle East. It was just promises,” rued designer Rohit Kamra. “It wasn’t just the foreign buyers. Not a single Delhi buyer came to my stall. I haven’t sold a garment to a Delhi buyer in six seasons. Aren’t we good enough for Delhi?” asked Anuj Sharma.
