Star wives on fashion power list
Bollywood star wives seem to have hit a total stumbling block with their style. In the October issue of Vogue India, Gauri Khan and Twinkle Khanna have been voted as key players in the fashion’s power list.fashion and trends Updated: Oct 16, 2010 13:38 IST
In the October issue of Vogue India, Gauri Khan and Twinkle Khanna have been voted as key players in the fashion’s power list. But with their recent public appearances during the couture week in Mumbai, these two uber fashionistas have surely raised questions about such impeccable claims.
Gauri Khan sported an overbleached tan look with a shocking bubble gum pink satin short halter dress. Her sheer pantyhose and mismatched tan shoes further added to the woes of the sorry style. Twinkle Khanna, who until recently has had a stellar run on the red carpet also cut a style spolier picture with her choice of bold camouflauge print leggings paired with the skirt when winter has hardly arrived. The look was mismatched as if put together in a great hurry.
“I feel sad to see Gauri cement her ‘London-Return’ image. Everything from the highlighted hair to the sheer pantyhose must’ve cost a bomb but the entire look makes me go, pfft,” says stylist Rishi Raj. Fans of Shah Rukh Khan, it seems, aren’t being so kind. “If Khan wanted to look pretty in pink, better luck next time,” says Anushree Majumdar, a former features’ journalist.
And while Khan’s penchant for shiny ensembles and make-up has been the bone of contention for a while, it’s Khanna’s sudden downward spiral that has fashionistas fretting. “From ill-fitting top to her twinkle toes, this ensemble just doesn’t do justice to Mrs Kumar’s fantastic body. Maybe a wardrobe detox is in order,” says choreographer and stylist, Meetu Booker-Soni.
This sartorial bug is plaguing all star wives it seems. Also at a couture week event, Zayed Khan’s wife, Malaika Khan opted to wear an outfit that has shocked the sarcasm out of some fashion critics. “Where does one start critiquing this,” adds Booker-Soni. So, wardrobe faux pas, it seems, are never a thing of the past.
