That ’70s look returns

Revisit the seventies closet, and upgrade your style statement with flared and wide legged denims.

The change is here. The skinny jeans and jeggings that dominated the runway and streets for many seasons are now replaced with an old flair from the ’70s. Chuck out the narrow bottoms, as this season is defined by wide legged and flared jeans.

Celebrities such as Claudia Schiffer, Eva Mendes, Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss, Jessica Alba and Zoe Saldana have flagged off the trend by wearing flared denims in a casual chic style. To toe their line, take cue from Farah Fawcett from the old hit TV show Charlie’s Angels. The choices for waist size, height, denim washes, etc are limitless. However refrain from channelling the ’70s look too literally and adopt modern touch.

The New York based designer, Derek Lam, got the look right, as he showcased high-waist, dark-wash denim trousers paired with a simple white blouse and platform heels for his Spring-Summer 2011 show. Pick a clean and understated denim wash. A single shade of colour without rips or worn-out details is better, making the denim wearable at work and at casual outings. The highlight is the mid or high waist silhouette. To create cleaner lines, match the high waist silhouette with a tucked in shirt. According to experts, the look is here to stay for coming seasons — a reason to invest in it.
