Atul Kasbekar, the photographer who shoots for the Kingfisher swimsuit calendar, was in the Capital recently, to select models for the next season. Talking about his expectation from the aspiring models, Kasbekar says, “We’re looking for swimsuit-fit models, with great height, an athletic body and long legs. But this
does not mean a size-zero model.”

So where does this lensman go about, shortlisting candidates? Kasbekar says, “Right now, I’m looking for girls in metros like Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. We have also got many applications from abroad. So it’s going to be a tough, but healthy competition.”

Is being fair-skinned an advantage? “Oh no! Not at all”, Kasbekar retorts. “In my career so far, I’ve worked mostly with dusky women. Look at Sheetal Malhar, she is dusky and so beautiful. I’m very particular about not propagating fairness as the idea of beauty,” he adds.

Talking about how the swimsuit calendar helps young models, Kasbekar says, “The girls get international recognition and also can try their luck in Bollywood.”

So, has a Bollywood star ever wanted to be a part of the calendar? Kasbekar replies, “Yes. But we don’t take them since it will dilute the purpose of promoting aspiring models.”

Apart from a great body, Kasbekar thinks being photogenic is vital, “Being camera-friendly does the trick for you. I think Malaika Arora Khan and Milind Soman are the most photogenic celebs.”
