Gurgaon: Expect snarls at Signature Tower from today as route diversions enforced

Commuters can expect snarls at Signature Tower junction from Tuesday, as route diversions have been enforced for the construction of an underpass.
Motorists heading from Maharana Pratap Chowk towards Jaipur can no longer take the right turn at the junction. Instead, they now need to take a left turn from the Traffic Safety Park cut and drive along Leisure Valley Road and join the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway through the service lane next to the Leisure Valley Park in Sector 29.
As the construction of the underpass has reached an advanced stage, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has barricaded a section of the road opposite Crown Plaza, thereby blocking the straight road from Maharana Pratap Chowk towards Huda City Centre Metro station and the right turn towards Jaipur.
Motorists from Maharana Pratap Chowk will now be required to drive along Leisure Valley Road to reach Huda City Centre.
Signages have been put up at each turn to ensure commuters take the right bend to reach their destinations.
However, no route diversions have been introduced for commuters on the stretch from Huda City Centre Metro station towards Maharana Pratap Chowk and they can turn left on the service lane of the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway to head towards Jaipur or the junction.
The route diversions were enforced on Saturday. Since the rush of commuters was low over the weekend and Monday was a public holiday on account of Rakshabandhan, traffic volume at the junction was much less than on most other days.
However, traffic police officials said that commuters should brace for snarls from Tuesday.
“The NHAI has blocked a portion of the road to pave way for the construction of an underpass and it has resulted in commuters no longer being able to head straight or right from the road from Maharana Pratap Chowk. It has also reduced the road width significantly,” Simardeep Singh, deputy commissioner of police (traffic), said.
The DCP added that commuters should be prepared for snarls, as instead of travelling on the main road they have to navigate through the arterial roads which aren’t equipped to handle such a large volume of traffic.
Signature Tower junction draws high volume of traffic, as it connects commuters to the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, Leisure Valley, Huda City Centre Metro station and DLF Phase-4.
