Police identified the accused as Manoj from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh and works in New Palam Vihar for power distribution company Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN).

He has been charged with forcibly raping a minor under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act . He was produced in court on Thursday and sent to judicial custody, police said.

The incident came to light after a doctor of a private hospital informed police about a pregnant minor after she came for treatment on Wednesday. As the girl was bleeding, her parents consulted a doctor. She is a class 10 student of a government school in the city and lives in Palam Vihar.

The doctor informed police after a medical examination confirmed that she was three months pregnant. Palam Vihar police said they arrested the accused after recording the statement of the girl.

In her statement, the girl said she met Manoj at her father’s shop. As she frequented the shop, she became friends with Manoj. Later, he started taking her for bike rides. In December 2016, Manoj took her to a secluded area near the Dwaka Expressway and forced himself on her. The girl, however, did not disclose the incident to anyone. Investigation is on in the case, police said.

Sandeep Kumar, station house officer, Palam Vihar, said a case has been registered, and the accused was arrested on Wednesday. “The accused was produced in the court today (Thursday) and sent to judicial custody,” Kumar said.
