According to SCERT officials, the website had the IS logo and some information written in Urdu. A video recording was also uploaded on the website.

Unidentified cyber criminals hacked into the website on Sunday and uploaded IS (The Islamic State) logo replacing that of SCERT, authorities of the department confirmed on Monday. The website was restored in 24 hours.

Gurgaon police have registered an FIR under section 66 (Hacking) and 66D (cheating by impersonation) of IT Act. They have referred the case to the cyber cell for further investigation. Sneh Lata, SCERT director, said, “My staff informed me (about the website) on Sunday and when we checked, we were shocked that http://scertharyana.in was hacked. There was no such information on the website. Why would anyone hack our website? We have requested the Gurgaon police to investigate the matter and find out who was behind the hacking and for what purpose.”

The police commissioner has directed cyber-crime teams to work on the case.

ACP (crime) Rajesh Kumar said, “We received the complaint on Monday evening at city police station and took prompt action. The case was immediately registered and our cyber-crime experts are already on the job”.

The Islamic State is an Islamic extremist rebel group controlling territory in Iraq and Syria.

The group is known for its web and social media propaganda, which includes Internet videos of the beheading of soldiers, journalists and aid workers.
