MCG takeover of Sushant Lok in Gurgaon in a limbo even after four months

Missed deadlines and slow process for taking charge of privately developed colonies by the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has become a cause for worry for the residents of Sushant Lok.

The MCG is taking charge of civic infrastructure of all privately developed colonies from the cash-strapped Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda).

The RWA said chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar had announced takeover of Sushant Lok, Palam Vihar, DLF 1, 2 and 3, and Suncity by Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) from respective private builders in April 2107. But till now only the charge for water supply to Sushant Lok has been taken up by the civic agency.

“Four booster pumps need a change of motor; underground water pipelines need to be replaced to fix water distribution system,” SS Rai, resident Sushant Lok, said.

“It’s been nearly four months but there is no sign of progress. Our worry is that old and outdated water pipelines, bore-wells and motors need to be updated and replaced before summer arrives and create another water crisis where we have to depend on tanker water for our daily needs. MCG has no answer as on date,” said AK Nagpal, president of Sushant Lok-I.

Nagpal informed that the survey of deficient infrastructure at Sushant Lok 1 was done between July and August last year by a company appointed by the MCG. It prepared an estimate (detailed project report ) of more than ₹92 crore for brining the deficient civic infrastructure up to speed.

“We will meet MCG official next week,” Nagpal said, adding that since Ansal Infrastructure Limited developed this colony the liability to fix deficient infrastructure is with the developer.

Either the developer fixes all this or pays the estimated amount to MCG, which has sent an estimate to the headquarter in Chandigarh for approval, Nagpal said.

V Umashankar, Commissioner MCG, said, “Sushant Lok DPR is approved but the developer has sought time till January 17. Takeover process will begin soon after that. DPR of DLF and Suncity also have been approved.”
