Winters here and so are the winter goodies. From gaajar ka halwa to gobhi ke parathe and makke ki roti — there’s lots to choose from. But beware, some foods may end up increasing your blood pressure. These tips from health experts will ensure you keep your blood pressure, as well as your weight in check this winter season. "Two tablespoons of honey with a glass a milk can be taken at night just before you sleep," says nutritionist Dr Suman Agarwal. Diet expert Shachi Sohal of Dr BL Kapur Memorial Hospital adds, "Honey with lemon water kills calories and gives warmth to the body."

“Salted dry fruits and excess of iodine should be avoided by those who face blood pressure problems,” says Agarwal. Sohal adds, “One can take 5 almonds and 2 walnuts, but avoid cashew nuts as they result in high cholestrol.” Milk products are high on calcium and cut down the elements that increase blood pressure. So when one consumes spinach and maze, they should have yogurt or butter with it,” says Agarwal, adding, “One should also eat more of green vegetables.”

A low carbohydrate diet is recommended at night. For those fond of Chinese food, Sohal recommends, “Food containing ajinomoto and soya sauce increase blood pressure, so avoid these.”
