Avengers: Endgame’s astounding Rs 53 crore opening in India has beaten the biggest first day totals of films starring the three Khans of Bollywood - Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan.
Once considered unbeatable at the box office, 2018 saw each of the three actors deliver box office duds. While Aamir starred in the action adventure Thugs of Hindostan, Shah Rukh played a dwarf in Zero and Salman led an ensemble cast in Race 3.
On Friday, Avengers: Endgame opened to Rs 53 crores in India, making it the second biggest opening in Indian box office history, following Baahubali: The Conclusion’s Rs 121 crore opening. The film narrowly edged out Aamir’s Thugs of Hindostan, which opened to Rs 52.25 crore in 2018 - the highest for a Hindi language film.
Endgame’s opening makes it the biggest Hollywood debut in India ever, beating out Avengers: Infinity War’s Rs 31 crore Friday debut in 2018. The film is poised to break the all-time opening weekend record in the United States, after a mammoth $150 million opening day. Endgame will become the first film in history to crack the $300 million mark at the US box office in the opening weekend, and could touch $1 billion worldwide - also an unprecedented feat.
In India, the film’s performance is just as remarkable, considering that it opened in significantly fewer screens than the biggest Bollywood releases. Endgame’s 2800 screens is less than Thugs’ 5000 screens, Zero’s 4380 screens and Race 3’s 4400 screens.

Shah Rukh Khan - Happy New Year (Rs 44 crore)
Salman Khan - Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo (Rs 40 crore)
While Aamir’s highest grossing film (domestically) is Dangal (Rs 562 crore), Salman’s biggest film is Bajrangi Bhaijaan (Rs 444 crore) and Shah Rukh’s biggest domestic release is Chennai Express (Rs 301 crore). Avengers: Infinity War came within touching distance of Rs 300 crore in India, and early estimates suggest that Endgame will conclude its run with Rs 350-400 crore.
