One of the biggest superhero films of all time, Avengers: Infinity War, has done the unthinkable. The film has earned more than Rs 120 crore in India itself in first three days of its release. It’s bigger than any Indian film released this year. Even the highly publicised and controversial Padmaavat was restricted to Rs 83 crore, including paid previews on Thursday night. This phenomenal success in the Indian market is a direct reflection of how the film is faring in the western markets.
Avengers Infinity War has already broken the record for highest North American opening weekend, raking in $250 million at US and Canadian box offices. That beat The Force Awakens, the seventh film in the long-running Star Wars space saga that made $248 million in its opening weekend in 2015.
The film with at least 10 big Hollywood stars earned $630 million (approximately Rs 4181 crore) at the box office in its first weekend, the highest global opening of all time. The film has achieved this feat without even releasing in China which is the second biggest market in the world. The film was made at around $300 million budget with another $150 million or so used to market it.
Infinity War is the 19th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), combining a whopping nine franchises and a cast list that reads like a who’s who of Hollywood’s A-list.
