Emma Watson-starrer musical romantic fantasy film Beauty and the Beast registered an earning of Rs 6.67 crore in its opening weekend in India.

The film, which is a live-action remake of 1991 animated movie of the same name, witnessed a 97% growth in its collection from Friday (Rs 1.42 crore) to Sunday (Rs 2.80 crore), read a statement on behalf of Disney India.

The opening weekend collection of Beauty and the Beast is three times higher than the opening weekend business of films like Cinderella, Moana and Zootopia in India, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

“What’s noteworthy is, the opening weekend biz of Beauty and the Beast is almost three times higher than Cinderella, Moana and Zootopia,” Adarsh posted on Twitter on Monday.

Internationally, Beauty and the Beast set a record for a March opening in North America, Exhibitor Relations reported. The previous record was set last year by Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, with $166 million.

Besides Watson, the film, which has been directed by Bill Condon, also features Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Kevin Kline and Josh Gad.
