The James Bobin-directed film, a sequel to the 2010 Tim Burton film Alice in Wonderland, has been beaten by X-Men: Apocalypse which debuted in the USA after opening worldwide last week, The Independent reports.

As per media company Rentrak, the adventure film, which was made on the budget of $170 million, is expected to rake in only about $40 million over the 4 day Memorial Day weekend, which is 65% less than Alice In Wonderland brought in during its first weekend in 2010.

According to a source, it was predicted the film will be able to take in between $55-60 million.
