The Stephen King adaptation was released on September 8 to record-breaking figures - the film was the highest-grossing horror film and September release of all time. To add to the success story, It also earned rave reviews from critics - it stands at 85% on the review aggregator website, Rotten Tomatoes.

It opened to $123 million in its opening weekend at the US box office, crossing Warner Bros’ modest projections of $60 million. The film made Rs 11 crore in its first four days of release in India, overtaking local competition - Poster Boys and Daddy - for the number 1 spot.

In its second weekend, the film bucked horror movie trends by becoming the largest September release of all time. It’s just $14.2 million behind The Exorcist, the top-grossing R-rated horror film ever.

It was produced on a budget of $35 million - which is roughly Rs 225 crore. A sequel is in early talks, with the story picking up 27 years after the events of the first film, when the murderous clown entity Pennywise returns.
