Actor Jessica Chastain is reportedly set to play the late Princess Diana in an upcoming biopic.

The 30-year-old American actor, who is known for playing Mrs O'Brien opposite Brad Pitt in The Tree of Life, has been chosen to star in a biopic about Diana. Caught in Flight, Ace Showbiz reported.

The biopic will be directed by German director Oliver Hirschbiegel, who also helmed Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig's 2007 sci-fi thriller The Invasion.

The film is set to begin production in March 2012. It is planned to be shot in Pakistan, Angola and the South of France and Paris, where Diana died in a fatal car accident with Dodi Al-Fayed in 1997.

"Caught in Flight will follow Diana's secret romance with heart surgeon Dr Hasnat Kahn, who reportedly was the love of her life. The pair met in 1995 at the Royal Brompton Hospital, where Diana was visiting her friend who was recovering from heart surgery," a source said.
