Saorise Ronan has been nominated for an Oscar for Lady Bird.

Universal Pictures India will release Oscar nominated film Lady Bird in India on March 2. The film is directed by Greta Gerwig and stars Saoirse Ronan in the lead as Lady Bird. The film has received five Oscar nominations including Best Pictures, Best Actress, Best Actress in Supporting Role (Laurie Metcalf), Best Original Screenplay and Best Director.

Set in Sacramento, California in 2002, amid a rapidly shifting American economic landscape, Lady Bird is an affecting look at the relationships that shape us, the beliefs that define us, and the unmatched beauty of a place called home.

Saoirse Ronan has already bagged the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and has been nominated for Best Actress at the Oscar.

Speaking about roping in Ronan to play the role of Lady Bird, Director Greta Gerwig said, “I met with Saoirse Ronan at the Toronto Film Festival in 2015 when she was there for Brooklyn. I sat in her hotel room and read the entire script out loud with her. As soon as I heard her say the words, I knew beyond a doubt that she was Lady Bird. It was so different and so much better than I had imagined. She was wilful and funny and heartbreaking, both universal and specific. She was going into rehearsals for The Crucible on Broadway, so it meant pushing the film for six months, but there was no other person who could have done it, it was hers two minutes into the read.”

Greta Gerwig’s Oscar nomination for Best Director category made her the fifth woman ever nominated for a best director at Oscars. The coming-of-age film also stars Laurie Metcalf, Tracy Letts, Lucas Hedges, Timothée Chalamet, Beanie Feldstein, Stephen McKinley Henderson, and Lois Smith.
