Nicole Kidman looks almost unrecognisable in new pictures from Destroyer, a new thriller film in which she plays a detective. The transformation comes a year after she appeared as a wrinkled old woman in Top of the Lake.

In the pictures, Kidman is seen walking on the streets of Los Angeles, wearing a dour expression on her face and a dull brown jacket on her shoulders. Her hair is just as messy as her appearance.

Kidman recently played a domestic abuse victim in the critically acclaimed HBO series Big Little Lies, which was renewed for a second season over the weekend. She was nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance on Monday.

Destroyer, directed by Karyn Kusama, is about a police detective who reconnects with people from an undercover assignment in her distant past in order to make peace. She will be joined by Bradley Whitford and Toby Kebbell in the film.

The Academy Award-winning star, 50, will play Queen Atlanna in Aquaman in 2018.
