Transformers: The Last Knight trailer is out and it is surprisingly slow
The first trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight, the fifth film in the now decade-old Transformers film franchise was released online on Tuesday.
After a quasi-reboot of the series with Age of Extinction, The Last Knight seems to be yet another retooling of the series. This time, characters from both Shia Labeouf and Mark Wahlberg’s iteration return.
There are Nazis, knights, huge explosions and a dying Optimus Prime. The trailer is surprisingly slow, with far less action than one would have initially anticipated. But that can be attributed to a lot of it not being fully complete yet.
The film explores Transformers lore even deeper, which might be a risky move, since most of the series’ new fans don’t watch these movies for the mythology, but for the spectacle. Aside from that final shot of Optimus attempting to murder Bumblebee, there aren’t too many talking points to take away from this trailer.
Michael Bay returns to direct, as always - although he has promised this is going to be his last time playing with these toys. This is also the first film produced after a bunch of new writers were hired to map out the future of the series.

The Last Knight stars Wahlberg, Isabela Moner, John Turturro, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson and Stanley Tucci. It has been scheduled for a June 23 2017 release.
