306 killed, 49 missing in Manipur violence since May 2023, House told
The 60-member assembly, which has a tenure till 2027, had been put on suspended animation after the President’s rule was imposed

As many as 306 people have been killed, while 49 remain missing in the ethnic violence that broke out in May 2023, Manipur home minister Govindas Konthoujam informed the state’s legislative assembly on Thursday.
The minister was responding to a question on the assembly floor raised by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Sapam Ranjan during the ongoing morning session.

Responding to the supplementary queries of the starred question, the home minister informed the house that according to the rule, a person is confirmed missing if the same person failed to trace within seven years.
Manipur has been under a crisis since May 3, 2023 between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo community.
In view of the violence, President’s rule was imposed in the state on February 13 last year after the BJP-led government headed by Biren Singh resigned on February 9, following months of ethnic violence.
