A 35-year-old man is on the run after killing his wife at a slum in Wadala on Saturday morning. The Wadala TT police investigating the case stated that the accused, identified only by his first name, Faizal, attacked his wife Rita, 27, using a sharp weapon.

According to the police, Rita and Faizal used to live at Kalwa in Thane but the victim had returned to her maternal home in Bhartiya Kamla Nagar, Wadala. Faizal had come there and slashed her neck at around 11am, before fleeing.

Investigations revealed that despite bleeding profusely, Rita attempted to seek help from her neighbours. “Rita collapsed around 10 feet from her home,” said Rajendra Sangle, senior inspector, Wadala TT police station.

After the victim was found lying in a pool of blood, locals informed the police who then rushed her to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead on arrival. According to the investigating team, this was Faizal’s second marriage and there were frequent arguments between the couple over financial issues.

Police are yet to identify the exact reason behind the murder and are on the lookout for the accused.
