According to Audumbar Patil, police inspector attached with Kagal police station, Kamble was rushed to the Civil Hospital, Kolhapur where she succumbed to injuries on Thursday evening.

Madhukar Rahane was driving from Mumbai to Konkan with his family and hit the woman at Kagal around noon. According to the complaint filed with police, the woman was in Kagal to attend an engagement function and was crossing the road when the incident happened, Patil said.

“We have sent him (Madhukar Rahane) a notice and asked him to come to the station. He is cooperating in the investigation,” Patil said.

According to police officials, Rahane was not speeding at the time of incident.

“There is no safe provision for her to cross the road. There is a tunnel which is really far away from the bus stop. It is difficult for people to walk all the way. She was, after all, a 67-year-old lady. Mr Rahane was not speeding either. It is an unfortunate incident,” Patil said.
