At railway junctions , 250 flyovers to ease congestions

“Apart from rail flyovers, we are also trying to increase speed of trains during crossover. When a train changes the line, the speed restriction is of 15km per hour, which we are trying to increase to 30kmph and eventually we will do the crossover at 50kmph. We will need to do signalling changes for this and we are in the process of doing it,” said VK Yadav, railway board chairman.

The railways department has identified 250 junctions as congested and is planning to construct rail flyovers at these junctions to overcome delays, two officials familiar with the development said.

These flyovers are expected to take trains to the platforms without waiting on city outskirts.

“Every rail passenger must have experienced the delay of trains just before the station. This is because approaches of most of the busy stations just have two lines. We have now identified 250 junctions where rail flyovers will be built so that a train can reach the platform without having to wait on the outskirts,” said a senior railway official.

Officials said the move was aimed at identifying the bottleneck and removing it.
