BRICS Summit India LIVE: Prime Minister is expected to hold bilateral meetings with the Chinese President on Sunday, and with Iran's President on Friday, on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit.

BRICS Summit India LIVE: The BRICS Business Forum is underway in New Delhi as part of the 18th BRICS Summit, bringing together business and government leaders from member countries. Delivering opening remarks at the event, external affairs minister S Jaishankar said greater economic activity and economic security within BRICS would contribute to greater self-reliance, while stressing the need to strengthen business ties, diversify commercial relationships and build resilient supply networks.

He added that the common objective was to make it easier for businesses across member countries to find partners, access markets and connect supply networks.

BRICS Summit on Sept 12-13

New Delhi is all set to host the BRICS Summit on September 12 and 13, with several world leaders and senior delegations arriving in the national capital from late Thursday evening through early Friday morning.

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in New Delhi on Friday, marking the beginning of a three-day visit to India to participate in the BRICS Summit and meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss expanding bilateral trade, investment and energy cooperation.

Putin is accompanied by a high-level delegation. His visit marks his first in-person participation at a BRICS summit outside Russia since the war in Ukraine began in February 2022.

Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira also arrived in New Delhi to attend the 18th BRICS Summit. The Ministry of External Affairs announced Vieira's arrival, saying he is representing Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at the summit, as Lula remains in Brazil for his election campaign.

Chinese President Xi Jinping, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Indonesian counterpart Prabowo Subianto, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali and Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung are among the top leaders attending the summit.

What’s on the agenda today?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Putin are scheduled to hold wide-ranging bilateral talks on Friday afternoon. The meeting is expected to focus on enhancing cooperation in a range of areas, including defence, energy, technology, pharmaceuticals and people-to-people exchanges.

Global corporate honchos representing China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), Huawei Technologies, Alibaba group, First Abu Dhabi Bank, Emirates Airline, Etihad Airways, and Embraer are expected to attend PM Modi’s address at the Brics Business Forum meeting on Friday evening.

The Friday meetings are focused on — Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability — and are expected to be attended by about 1,000 foreign delegates, people aware of the development said, requesting anonymity as the nature of the programme is tentative. The opening session is expected to be addressed by commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal and external affairs minister S Jaishankar, they added.

Security arrangements

Delhi Police has put in place a multi-layered security for the upcoming BRICS Summit, with around 15,000 personnel and 200 companies of paramilitary forces to be deployed across the national capital, a senior police officer said on Thursday.

The police have also installed more than 500 CCTV cameras, including high-resolution and specialised surveillance cameras, to keep a round-the-clock watch over key areas.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has also notified airspace restrictions around New Delhi ahead of the Brics Summit, barring non-scheduled flight operations from 7am to 11pm from September 11 to 13, people familiar with the matter said.

BRICS Summit 2026 LIVE: Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday urged BRICS member countries to link their payment systems, encourage trade in local currencies, and make digital trade more accessible globally.

Addressing the Opening Session of BRICS Business Forum 2026 here, he said India has taken significant initiatives in laying out a digital public infrastructure.

India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has crossed over 250 billion transactions a year, representing more than half of the transactions by volume across the world.

BRICS Summit 2026 LIVE: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a busy schedule on Friday as the BRICS Summit kicks off in New Delhi. So far, the biggest name to arrive in Delhi on Friday has been Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Russian President will meet PM Modi for a bilateral meeting on Friday.

Apart from Putin, Modi will also meet United Nations (UN) secretary general António Guterres, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.

While the Modi-Putin meeting is expected around 3:30pm on Friday, the meeting with Guterres will follow that. Pezeshkian is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with the Prime Minister at around 6:15pm, and Subianto is expected to meet Modi an hour later.

BRICS Summit 2026 LIVE: External affairs minister S Jaishankar on Friday said that greater economic activity and higher economic security mean greater self-reliance, adding that the objective remains to strengthen the ability to absorb shocks while remaining connected and competitive.

Speaking at the BRICS Business Forum, Jaishankar said, "The common thread is how to make it easier for businesses in our countries to find more partners, access more markets, connect supply networks and convert complementarities into viable commercial partnerships. For BRICS particularly, higher economic activity and higher economic security mean greater self-reliance. The objective is to strengthen our ability to absorb shocks while remaining connected and competitive.”
