A special CBI court here on Monday summoned rape convict Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim along with two other accused on February 28 for framing of charges in the castration case.
The dera chief is currently lodged in the Sunaria jail at Rohtak where he is serving 20-year imprisonment for raping his female devotees. Keeping the security aspects involved in his appearance in the courtroom, the court of Kapil Rathi directed Sunaria jail superintendent to produce Gurmeet Ram Rahim through video conferencing (VC). He is already appearing through VC in two other murder trials he is facing at another CBI court of Jagdeep Singh in Panchkula district court.
As per the court orders, the two other accused, Dr. Pankaj Garg and Dr MP Singh, will appear in person. Still at large, Garg is likely to file anticipatory bail following the court summons. MP Singh, alias Mahender Insan, is currently in judicial custody in Ambala jail following his arrest on January 7 for his alleged involvement in inciting Panchkula violence on August 25 last year.
Dera chief is prime accused
The court hearing follows the CBI challan on February 1, framing Gurmeet Ram Rahim as the prime accused in the alleged forced castration of nearly 400 devotees with the help of Dr Pankaj Garg and Dr MP Singh, who were employed in a hospital inside the Sirsa-based dera.
The court alleged that he mislead his devotees into believing that they would be able to realise God if they underwent castration and gave up their wealth. Then they were deputed for the protection of female devotees.
The CBI has charged Baba and two others with criminal conspiracy (120-B), voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means (Section 326), besides cheating (Section 416) and criminal intimidation (Section 506).
The CBI began probing the matter in 2015 on the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High court after hearing a petition filed by dera chief’s former follower Hans Raj Chauhan in July 2012.
